Evidently Yann Martel, author of Life of Pi, wasn’t too thrilled with the way our Prime Minster, Stephen Harper, ignored a group of artists who were invited to the House of Commons (read about that incident here). Martel’s displeasure may very well turn into our pleasure: every two weeks, he plans to send a book to the PM, hoping it will encourage “moments of stillness.” Any responses or acknowledgement received will be documentd on his blog. First book? Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilych.

Chabon on the road

Michael Chabon reviews Cormac McCarthy’s The Road in the latest issue of The New York Review of Books (15 February 2007). Also articles by Buruma, Coetzee, Krugman, Pfaff — a stellar lineup.
